Middle School
Now that you have your learner’s permit, start planning your route to college! How will you get there?
Planning for college doesn’t begin in a student’s junior
year in high school — it starts right now! It’s
not too soon to start thinking about what you want to be when you grow
up and how you’re going to get there. So, take out your roadmap
and let’s get started!
Why go to college?
Everyone is different, so their reason for going to college is different. If you are wondering if college is right for you, here are some reasons to go:
- You’ll make more money than someone who doesn’t go to school beyond high school.
- More and more jobs require schooling beyond high school, so higher education increases your chances of finding, and keeping, a job.
Required coursework: Hard work ahead!
- Make a habit of challenging yourself and trying new things. A lot of different classes are available to you. Exploring new topics and interests can make school fun!
- Think about eighth grade as the first year of your academic life. In many cases, your grades in your last year of middle school determine which classes you’ll be allowed to enroll in when you go to high school. Your grades do matter!
- Talk to your parents, counselors and other adults about wanting to go to college. They can help you make it happen!
