Sheila Callahan, 102.5 Mountain FM-KMSO, Missoula

Sheila Callahan, general manager of 102.5 Mountain FM-KMSO, Missoula, has partnered with Student Assistance Foundation (SAF) for three years to spread the word about College Goal Sunday, Montana Career Information System (MCIS) and other programs that help Montana students go to college.

What are the causes you support and why? I support agencies that have a large impact on the community — children, families in need, disadvantaged citizens. I support causes that involve education, social services, women’s issues and overall community building.

Why is it important to you to help Montana students and families reach their higher education goals? Two reasons, especially as it relates to public schools. First, it makes for a strong country with a high standard of living and democratic government. Secondary, Montana students who grow up without a high school education cannot fully reach their potential and help grow their communities. To build our own great companies, we need education to do it.

Why do you partner with Student Assistance Foundation? SAF helps all students by making quality education more affordable. For example, SAF has done some exceptional work to help children and families. The Lights, Camera, Action! middle school curriculum and the MCIS workbook for high school students, plus the promotion of MCIS statewide are great examples. SAF is providing the most benefits to the most people. SAF is the perfect organization to broker the synergy between business and education.
